Post Season Henry was the club's top-scorer with 27 goals followed by Saviola with 26.
Bergkamp who has desired to go into management scored 18. Barrett and Monaco-bound
Wiltord had 11 each. The highest scoring midfielder was Joe Cole with 13,
followed by Ljungberg with 10. Both Parlour and David Noble had 8 each.
Silvinho out-scored the rest with 3 goals. Michael Clegg got 2 and both
Woodgate and Ashley Cole scored 1 apiece. The Reserve team played 22 games, winning 13, drew 3 and lost 6. Which was
quite a good showing as compared to last season. I promoted a few players
to the first team for next season. This includes David Noble, Emanuele Calaio
(4) and Joe Osei-Kyffour (1). Lauren left for Southampton for free and I transfer-listed Notman as he
wasn't performing well for the past few seasons. I think it's about time
he left for some other team that promises him first team football. Igor
Stepanovs left for Burnley in a £325,000 deal, whereas Liam Chilvers
went to Derby for £1.9 million. A testimonial and farewell match for Dennis Bergkamp was held at Ashburton
Grove between Arsenal and Ajax Amsterdam, the club that produced him. Arsenal
won 5-3 with Bergkamp scoring for both sides, 2 goals for Arsenal and 1
for Ajax. 65,000 fans gave him a standing ovation for his service throughout
the years as he made a lap of honour around the pitch. As for the International Awards, Thierry Henry was voted as European Footballer
of the Year and Striker of the Year. Javier Saviola on the other hand, finished
second in the World Footballer of the Year award and in FIFA's World Footballer
of the Year category. But he won the South American Footballer of the Year
award. Sebastien Frey won the Goalkeeper of the Year award, while Jonathan
Woodgate and Rio Ferdinand came in 1st and 2nd respectively in the Defender
of the Year award. Ashburton Grove set a new standard for stadium planning as the finishing
touches were done to our home ground. A mixed ventilation mode minimised
the use of air-conditioning, skylights and high levels of fenestration were
added to maximise daylight and providing over 12,000 square metres of green
roofs, thereby increasing thermal insulation. Additional provisions have
been made to accommodate disabled fans with the use of ramps and a total
of 300 seats were specially designed for them. A community health facility
was integrated within the stadium to provide the local residents around
Ashburton Grove.
