Post Season Saviola reproduced his astonishing goalscoring form by scoring 43 goals
in 36 matches. Henry followed up with 28 goals, while Calaio and Cassano
got 20 apiece. Pablo Aimar had a stunning form last season, scoring 23 goals
from midfield. He even finished second in the league scoring tables, proving
his worth of £12 million. David Noble scored 13 followed by Joe Cole
(12), Greening (11), Barrett (9) and Van der Vaart (8). Michael Clegg, Jonathan
Woodgate and Clint Hill scored one each. The Reserves had a good season nonetheless, finishing with 14 wins, 4 draws
and 4 defeats. Marcus Benson (5) was the top-scorer followed by Adam Fleming
and Craig Flynn with 3 each. I decided to promote Craig Flynn and Anthony
McCann to the first team next season. More good news, Arsenal unveiled their £120 million high-tech training
facility at London Colney. This facility includes 4 training pitches and
1 for the Reserve League and Arsenal Ladies matches. A state-of-the-art
treatment room for minor injuries and a hydrotherapy room for muscle fatigue.
A secondary school has been provided for the young trainees and we have
also included 2 blocks of hostel for the boys and 1 for the girls. This
project is in-lined with Arsenal's objective of producing more talents for
the club and country. Nike has decided to come up with a sponsorship deal
for Arsenal at all footballing levels including the Arsenal Ladies squad
and Under-21 Arsenal Ladies. An Arsenal player finally won the FIFA World Player of the Year Award when
Antonio Cassano picked up the coveted prize. Joe Cole came in at second
place. Saviola won the World Footballer of the Year Award again whereas
Calaio finished third. Antonio Cassano picked up another award, winning
the European Player of the Year Award. He held off the challenge of Henry
and Calaio who came in second and third respectively. Javier Saviola won
the South American Footballer of the Year award for the third time in a
row. Sebastien Frey won the Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third time
too. Rio Ferdinand finally overcame Jonathan Woodgate to win the Defender
of the Year award. Woodgate and Clegg came in at second and third respectively.
Antonio Cassano swept to his third title by capturing the Midfielder of
the Year award. Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Calaio came in first and second
respectively in the Striker of the Year award. 18 players represented their countries while 4 represented the Under-21
squad. 16 players made their way into the World Cup Finals held in Germany.
10 of them played for England.
