Post Season Amazingly, we had a bumper season when it comes to goals being scored. Saviola
topped the charts with a whooping 40 goals in 35 games, followed by Henry
with 34 goals from 38 games. Cassano and Calaio weighed in with 22 and 17
goals respectively. Joe Cole was the midfield dynamo with 14 goals while
Ljungberg had a personal best of 12. Both Noble and Barrett had 10 apiece.
New signing Van der Vaart had 6 goals, followed by Greening and Vieira with
3 each. Michael Clegg top scored for the defenders with 2 goals while Clint
Hill, Woodgate and O'Shea had a goal each to their credit. The Reserves did themselves proud by having a devastating run last season.
Having played 24 games, they won 16, drew 6 and lost twice only. Marcus Benson
was the top scorer with 5 goals, followed by Junior Elliott with 4. I decided
to promote John Spicer and Jermaine Pennant for next season's campaign.
A few teams had had their eyes set on a few of our players, namely Steven
Sidwell, Alex Notman, Joe Osei-Kyffour, James Harper and Stuart Taylor.
Joe Cole came in second for the FIFA World Player of the Year, second for
the European Footballer of the Year and third for the World Footballer of
the Year awards. Javier Saviola on the other hand won both the World Footballer
of the Year and South American Footballer of the Year awards. Emmanuel Calaio
finished third in the European Footballer of the Year category.
